CNP Holds Post-Election Strategy Meeting - Planning Electoral College Challenge
The Council for National Policy convened a critical strategy meeting November 12-14, 2020 to coordinate the conservative movement’s response to Trump’s election loss, with strategists laying out a multi-stage plan to challenge the results through claims of election fraud and state legislature intervention.
Videos obtained by researcher Brent Allpress documented CNP strategists presenting their tactical options: If Trump lost the popular vote, they would emphasize the Electoral College. If he lost the Electoral College, they would promote spurious claims of election fraud and support challenges to electors in Republican-controlled state legislatures.
The meeting featured a panel titled “Election Results and Legal Battles: What Now?” where CNP members heard presentations from voter fraud misinformation specialists J. Christian Adams, Cleta Mitchell, and Hans von Spakovsky. These presentations laid the groundwork for the election denial narrative that would dominate conservative messaging for the next two months.
The recordings captured presentations by Lisa Nelson (CEO of ALEC), attorney Cleta Mitchell (who would later join Trump’s January 2 call to Georgia officials), and Virginia “Ginni” Thomas (CNP Action board member and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas). This demonstrated the coordination between CNP’s institutional partners (ALEC), legal operatives, and Supreme Court connections.
The November meeting represented CNP functioning precisely as its founders intended: as a secret coordination hub where conservative institutional leaders, legal strategists, and political operatives could plan multi-institutional campaigns away from public scrutiny. The election challenge strategy required coordination across Heritage Foundation (research and messaging), ALEC (state legislature pressure), Federalist Society (legal theory), and grassroots organizations (protests and mobilization).
This meeting was the command center from which the January 6 effort would be coordinated. Within weeks, CNP members would execute the strategy discussed: Cleta Mitchell would coordinate legal challenges and draft letters to state legislators, Charlie Kirk would organize transportation to Washington, Jenny Beth Martin would promote the rally, and Ginni Thomas would pressure Republican officials to reject electors.
The CNP November 2020 meeting stands as documented evidence of coordinated conspiracy to overturn a presidential election, executed through the conservative movement’s primary coordination infrastructure.
